Without proper protection from the UV rays, your tattoo will fade.

Applying sunscreen on a healed tattoo once before heading outside, is not enough protection, it needs to be applied at least every 2 hours.

No matter the likelihood of sunburn, your skin tone, or if it looks overcast outside, if your tattoo is showing, it will have the potential of fading faster over time. Especially with fine lines.

I recommend 30+ spf, your preferred brand.
